Purpose of the Justice Leadership Academy & Criminal Justice Society

The Justice Leadership Academy (JLA) and the Criminal Justice Society (CJS) are a specialized educational program designed to introduce students to the complexities of the criminal justice system. Through in-depth discussions, real-world scenarios, and multimedia resources, students will explore topics such as lawmaking, law enforcement, judicial proceedings, and ethical decision-making. The curriculum includes analyzing controversial events that may involve sensitive content to foster critical thinking and an understanding of ethical challenges in the criminal justice field.

It is important to note:

Any parent, guardian or other responsible adult is welcome at any/all meetings for both the JLA and the CJS. No notice is necessary, if you have an interest about the topic or you are just curious- please come join in.

If you would like to learn more about me, follow the link to the about me section.

The Justice Leadership Academy (JLA) is one day a week, for approximately 1 hour, for 16 weeks. For students to participate must have:

1) Completed the CJS

OR

2) Be in 9th-12th grades at CCS

JLA students will have one week of classroom education, and then the following week (subject to change), they will hear from a speaker who is an expert in that discipline. During the classroom week, students will begin learning about the topic (Creating laws, 911, law enforcement, judiciary, etc.). The students will then review a controversial event that happened in each one and discuss it.

OR

The Criminal Justice Society (CJS) is also one day a week, for approximately 1 hour, however this group will meet every other week. It is a total of 8 meetings happening over 16 weeks. During the CJS, students will listen to speakers with the JLA students; however, CJS students will not have the same classroom time as the JLA students. CJS students will be provided a book (found in the student section of my bookshelf) which will give them information pertaining to the various roles within criminal justice and will have an opportunity to hear from key individuals in the criminal justice field. This may include guests such as: Judges, State Prosecutors, Federal Prosecutors, Law Makers, Law Enforcement, Chaplains, or other key individuals in the Criminal Justice System.

Waiver for Sensitive Content

As a participant in this program, students will be exposed to multimedia materials that may include:

  • Foul Language: Instances of strong language as part of real-world scenarios.

  • Violence: Depictions of violent events relevant to the criminal justice topics being studied.

  • Nudity: Although unlikely, some controversial incidents may contain partial nudity. All efforts will be made to avoid these instances, but there may be cases where it is unavoidable.

By signing this waiver, you understand and accept that your student may be exposed to this type of content. These materials are presented in a structured and educational setting, with the purpose of facilitating critical discussion on ethical issues and decision-making in the criminal justice process.
